Performance Analysis of WHR Systems for Marine Applications Based on sCO2 Gas Turbine and ORC

Waste heat recovery (WHR) can represent a solution to improve the efficiency of ships’ propulsion, helping exceed stringent greenhouse gas emission limits. This is particularly suitable in case propulsion based on turbines due their medium-high temperature level exhaust gases. study analyzes performance hybrid energy grid, which recovered by gases an aeroderivative turbine, GE LM2500+, when bottoming system supercritical CO2 turbine. Given issues and peculiarities related onboard installation, where size weight are fundamental concerns, six WHR schemes have been analyzed. They span from simple cycle partial preheated regenerative, cascade layout ORC receives thermal power sCO2 GT. The influence seawater has also considered. energetic exergetic comparison different carried out using commercial software Thermoflex. results showed that increase overall up 29% be obtained lead decrease performance.
